Vastu Shastra is also called science of direction that combines all the five elements of nature (Fire, Water, Earth, Air and Space) and balance them. "Vastu" represents physical environment or anything existing like house, shelter etc and "Shastra" represents system knowledge, text or principles.
Know about the directions
East : This direction represents the King of gods (Indra) - grants wealth, progress and pleasure in life
West : This direction represents the god of rain (Varun)- showers his blessing bringing prosperity in life
North : This direction represents the god of wealth (Kuber) - grants us wealth and prosperity
South : This direction represents the god of death (Yama) - ends evil and grants all good things in life
Northeast : This direction represents the god Ishwor - grants wisdom, divinity and relieves us from sufferings
Southeast : This direction represents the god of fire (Agni) - grants energy vigor and beautiful personality
Northwest : This direction represents the god of wind (Vayu) - grants health, strength and long life
Southwest : This direction represents Niruti (demon) - grants purity, cleanliness and ends fear and enemies
Vastu For Bedroom
- Never put you head to north direction while sleeping. East and South are preferable
- For the stability and strength in life place mountain or snow clad peaks of mountains but without water
- Try not to use or completely avoid the use of Television, computers or any electronics stuffs
- To enhance the relation place round mirror soothing paintings. But do not place the mirror in front of your bed or attach to it.
- Always put single mattress in double bed, never use double mattress this might create a symbolic separation
- Dressing table should be located against the north or east wall
- Wardrobe, bookcase on south or west side of the bedroom
- Wooden bed without the storage are best, metal bed may bring health problems related to heart and brain
- Hand crystal balls in south-west corner
- Master bed room should be at the south-west. children bedroom at the west or northwest
- Do not place your bed just below the constructed beam
- Do not put plants in bedroom
- Southwest corner of the bedroom should never be left empty, always keep heavy things, furniture etc. in this portion in every room as a general rule of Vastu.
- Happy family pictures should be displayed in bedroom to enhance positive energy of the room
Vastu for Kitchen
- It should be at South-East direction of house, the alternative to it is North-west corner
- While cooking facing at east is must. Facing to north increases unwanted expenses, facing towards south causes problem in females health, facing towards west is preferable.
- Never keep medicines in kitchen, preferably keep in pooja place or living room
- The water tank in the kitchen should be at the North-east direction where as stove at the South-east direction
- Marbal or granite should be red in color where gas stove is placed
- Avoid keeping mirror in kitchen
- Cooking area should not touch side walls
- If the family is having meals in the kitchen then they should never face south while eating. This can lead to stomach problems
- Gas Cylinder should be kept in south-east. Empty Cylinder should be kept in south-west
- There should be no leaking taps in the kitchen. This affects the money flow
- If the refrigerator is a part of the kitchen then place it in the southwest direction. Exhaust fans in the kitchen should always be put on the eastern walls in the southeast corner. Other electrical appliances like microwave can be put in the southeast corner
- There should be no toilets adjoining, above or below the kitchen
Vastu for Living Room
- The living room should be close to the entry and should reflect a positive energy. Good family feelings and friends should circulate in this area
- The living room can be in the northeast for a north or east facing house. For a west facing house, the living room can be in the northwest. For a south facing house, one can settle for a southeast living room
- The color of the walls and the tiles can be white, yellow, blue or green. As far as possible, it should not be red or black.
- Coolers or air-conditioners should be in the west and not in the southeast. TV should be in the southeast preferably. It should not be in the northeast or southwest.
- Chandelier should not be fixed right in the center of the room, but can be slightly towards the west, reason being that central part should not have any heavy weight in the central area
- The sitting arrangement of the head of the family should be facing the east or in the north direction
- Furniture of this room and arrangement of furniture should be square or rectangular. Avoid circular, triangular, egg shaped, hexagonal or odd shapes
- Above any of the entrance doors on the inside of the room no photographs of any God should be displayed
- Place few favorite pictures of your family in the living / family room. Playing soft music in the living room also increase its energy
- It is good if the ceiling slopes down toward the northeast direction
- Aquariums are beneficial to place in the North, East and North-East of living room
- Heavy furniture can be set against the south ans west walls (and if need against east walls) not touching them
Vastu for Pooja Room
- The pooja room building should be in the east, north or north-east corner
- The pooja room should always be on the ground floor and never in the basement
- Any items, showpiece, idols of god etc removed form pooja room for any reason should not be kept elsewhere in the house, and should be properly viserjit in a river
- It should not be in the bedroom
- All the material related to pooja room should never be kept in the southeast of the room
Vast for Bathroom/Toilet
- The east portion of the house is best for constructing a bathroom. The morning rays of the Sun are believed to be extremely beneficial for health, hence proper windows should be provided in the bathroom
- The slope of the bathroom floor should be towards north and east so water drains to the northeast side of the bathroom
- It should be in the northwest of the building. Never construct toilet in the center of the building and in the northeast of the building
- Attach bathroom should be to northwest of the room or alternative is southeast of the builing or room
Vastu for Office
- A temple in the North East corner should be built and should always be kept clean and less loaded
- Entrance to your office should be receptive. It should be vibrant and bright
- Reception should face east and visitors should face south or west direction
- Avoid to many columns and floor levels in production hall or administrative building
- The door should be open inside the room while entering
- We should not sit with back towards the entrance of the room
- All surplus stores should be South or southwest side
- The cabin shape should not be irregular, either square rectangule
- Financial department should be in northeast, legal in southeast marketing in northwest, production in centre/west and operations department in southwest
- Office should always be kept clean
- Never sit under a beam or near column
- CEO cabin should be in the southwest of the premises. Seniors cabin in the west or southwest.
- CEO should sit on a high back chair with a wall behind and cabin should be at the end of a corridor
- General staff should sit in north, center, east and northeast area of the office premises. Staff should preferably face east direction or may face to north
